ACADEMY FRIDAY

ACADEMY FRIDAYS WITH TIMMY TRUMPET
Friday 27 January

2011 was Timmy Trumpet's biggest year yet, and 2012 isn't showing any signs of slowing him down with bookings accross the world including in Miami, Brazil, Ibiza and Thailand. These World Tours combined with his weekly Australian residencies in every capital city means he is averaging 5-6 flights a week, placing him in the top 100 flier’s in Australia. When he’s not flying he’s in the studio recording, remixing and hosting weekly radio shows that are broadcasted nationally on over 58 stations. Between juggling these and running his own clothing label (wifebeaterz.com.au), club night (f#%k fluro) and co-staring on Fox8’s latest reality TV series (The Stafford Brothers), Timmy is one busy boy, heading into an even busier 2012

ACADEMY FRIDAYS WITH DJ YODA
Friday 13 January

DJ Yoda is one of Britain's most admired and original DJs, having built a reputation as the only DJ to single-handedly inject humour into UK hip-hop. Admired for his originality as well as his sense of fun, he is possibly the only DJ in the world who can fill a club cutting George Formby with Jurassic 5, or 80's pop with New York rap.

Tipped by Q Magazine as one of "The 10 DJs you must see before you die", and voted alongside DJ Premier as "One of the Top Three DJs in the World" in Hip Hop Connection magazine,

DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. Born in London, Yoda represents a new brand of mix-master who will play any kind of music to make people dance - with a hip-hop set that can take the audience from underground rap to TV themes, to nursery rhymes, country, soul, reggae, drum and bass, 80's pop and back again

Supported by - The Crunch (Shifty Business), Jemist & DJ Just 1

ALLIANCE PRESENTS CALVIN HARRIS + BURNS
Friday 06 January

Kicks Entertainment are excited to announce the return of Calvin Harris to Canberra this January for Alliance at Academy.

CALVIN HARRIS

King of electropop Calvin Harris is one of the few artists who has successfully bridged the gap between chart hits and all out club bangers.

He created disco with his 2007 gold-selling debut 'I Created Disco' shook up the
drab dance music scene in the UK and injected it with a much-needed dose of
fun. “Acceptable in the 80's” shot him to the forefront of the scene and since then it seems the only way has been up, with a continuous barrage of award nominations and top 10 singles making him one of the most talked about artists of recent years.

Calvin Harris preformed at last years sold out Foreshore Festival and was one of the most memorable sets of the day. It’s of no surprise when you think about, with all the huge anthems he has released such as; ‘Bounce’, ‘Not Alone’, ‘You Used To Hold Me’, ‘Acceptable In The 80’s’, ‘Dance Wiv Me’ and more!

Making number one collaborations with Dizzie Rascal and more recently Rhianna, as well as writing and producing records for other recording artists including Kylie Minogue's. has only helped to cement his place at the top.

Put simply, he knows how to make a crowd move.

BURNS

Supporting Calvin Harris on his tour of Australia is his own room mate and fellow producer, BURNS.

Scottish DJ/Producer Burns is coming down under. With a growing list of official work and a newly released 3rd EP, of his 4 EP installation dubbed "Teknique". Burns has been hard at work, and we'll be seeing quite a bit more of him in the near future!

The past couple years he's seemingly gotten an increasing amount of exposure, picked up some great gigs, not to mention remix duties for the likes Kasabian, Empire Of The Sun, Late of The Pier, Passion Pit, Filthy Dukes, Yuksek, Gossip, and Calvin Harris (who even named a song after Burns on his #1 UK album.
